A civil engineer or surveyor generally uses engineering scales in home design to draw a property/site plan.  Each square represents 10′-0″.  This scale is most commonly used for individual lots when the lots are larger.  Also suitable for small subdivision plans.  The pattern is five squares per inch with a heavier sub-grid every inch (50′)
