LARGE FORMAT GRAPH PAPER

NOTE:   In the United States, residential working drawings are generally scaled at 1/4″ = 1′-0″.

Preliminary plans or multi-family building plans are commonly drawn at 1/8″ = 1′-0″

Details may be drawn at 1/2″ = 1′-0″ or 1″=1′-0″

The rest of the world uses Metric scale, where plans are generally drawn at 1:50 and preliminary study and muli-family building plans drawn at 1:100 and details at 1:25.

These scales are generally used for site plans and land surveys and will vary along with the size of the land parcel.  Larger scales, such as 1″=60′-0″ are generally used for big tracts of land and smaller scales, such as 1″=10′-0″ are used on individual lots.

Metric is used on both architectural and site planning drawings.

House plans are usually drawn at 1:50.  Site plans and details vary.
