Engineering scales in home design are generally used by the civil engineer or surveyor to draw the property / site plan. Each square represents 10′-0″. This scale is most commonly used for individual lots when the lots are larger. Also good for small subdivision plans. The pattern is four squares per inch with a heavier sub-grid every inch (40′)
